Meet our Portland optometrist
Kirk Parker, O.D., has spent more than 30 years caring for patients and families throughout the Portland area. As the owner of Cedar Hills Vision Clinic, he combines advanced diagnostic technology with personalized care designed to help patients feel comfortable, informed, and supported throughout every stage of their vision health journey. His philosophy is simple: “First-time patients become lifelong friends.”
Education & Professional Background
Dr. Parker is a native of the Pacific Northwest. He grew up on Mercer Island, Washington, just outside Seattle, before later moving to Oregon, where he built his career and family life.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at Pacific University’s College of Optometry in Forest Grove. Since beginning practice in 1988, Dr. Parker has spent more than three decades serving patients throughout Portland and caring for multiple generations of local families.
A Passion for Helping Patients Protect Their Vision
Dr. Kirk Parker values the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives by improving vision and promoting proactive eye care. Whether helping a patient see clearly with updated glasses or contact lenses, treating eye discomfort, or identifying eye diseases, he believes quality eye care can have a direct impact on everyday comfort and quality of life.
He is especially passionate about using modern technology to support more precise and preventative care. Cedar Hills Vision Clinic continues to invest in advanced diagnostic equipment that allows Dr. Parker to evaluate eye health thoroughly.
Areas of Special Interest
Dr. Parker has several areas of special interest within optometry, including pediatric eye care, contact lenses, dry eye treatment, and the diagnosis and management of eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts.
One of his greatest passions is pediatric optometry. He enjoys working with children and families to support healthy visual development and help parents identify potential vision concerns. Through the InfantSEE® program, Dr. Parker provides no-cost infant eye exams for children under the age of one to help families access early preventative eye care.
Over the years, he has also developed strong professional relationships throughout the Portland medical community. When patients require specialty care outside the clinic, Dr. Parker helps connect them with local providers well-suited to their specific needs.
Community Involvement and Outreach
Dr. Parker believes quality eye care should be accessible to families and children throughout the community. In addition to participating in InfantSEE®, he works with Lions Club programs that help provide eye exams for children from low-income families.
Cedar Hills Vision Clinic also supports international outreach efforts focused on building sustainable eye care access in developing countries. These programs help establish clinics and train local providers so communities can continue improving eye health long after the initial support is provided.
Life Outside the Practice
Outside the office, Dr. Parker enjoys spending time with his family. He has two grown sons, along with a granddaughter and grandson, who keep him active and involved as a proud grandfather.
He also has an Australian Shepherd named Daisy, who brings plenty of personality and energy to everyday life.
When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Parker enjoys hiking, fly fishing, traveling, and exploring the Pacific Northwest outdoors. He especially enjoys Oregon’s old-growth forests and natural landscapes.
He is also an avid cook who enjoys learning about different cultures through food and bringing creativity into the kitchen at home.
